A Storage Box can be accessed by multiple users from different locations under the same VPN, provided the VPN is configured correctly. This setup leverages two key features: the ability to create sub-accounts within the Storage Box and the use of a VPN to create a private network.

How it Works ⚙️

  1. VPN as a Private Network: The VPN creates a secure, encrypted tunnel. When all users connect to the same VPN, their internet traffic appears to originate from a single, trusted IP address (that of the VPN server).
  2. Hetzner’s IP-Based Firewall: You can configure the Storage Box’s firewall to allow access only from the trusted IP address of your VPN. This effectively locks the storage box down, making it inaccessible to the public internet. Since all three users are connected to the same VPN, they all share this trusted IP, allowing them to bypass the firewall.
  3. Sub-accounts for User Management: Within the Hetzner Console, you can create up to 100 sub-accounts for a single Storage Box.1 Each sub-account can be given a unique username and password.
    • Access Control: The main account has full access to the entire storage space. Each sub-account can be restricted to a specific subdirectory.2 This allows you to grant each user access only to their designated files, preventing them from seeing or modifying data in other users’ directories.

By combining a VPN with sub-account feature, you can create a secure and private file-sharing environment for a team, even if they are in different physical locations.
